Bots don't have faces. That's the point.

You've seen it on other apps. A profile that's too polished. A bio that's slightly off. A conversation that moves in a direction that feels scripted. And then the realisation: you've been talking to a bot.

It's not just annoying. It's corrosive. Every fake account erodes the trust that makes genuine connection possible. If you can't be sure who's real, you start to hold back. You stop being open. You protect yourself, and in doing so, you close yourself off from the very thing you came to the app to find.

Wizz App built its verification system to make that experience impossible. Not unlikely. Impossible.

Here's how.

The selfie isn't enough. Wizz App goes further.

Most apps that ask for a selfie during sign-up are using it as a formality. A human glances at it. Or no one does. Either way, a determined fake account can get through with a printed photo or a screenshot of someone else's face.

Wizz App uses liveness detection powered by Yoti, one of the world's leading identity verification providers and trusted by institutions including the UK Home Office and the NHS. Liveness detection doesn't just look at the image. It analyses whether what's in front of the camera is a real, live human being.

A printed photo? Rejected. A mask? Rejected. A video replay of someone else's face? Rejected. The system is specifically built to distinguish a living person from any static or simulated substitute.

This happens before you send your first message. Before you even set up your profile. Every single Wizz App user, all 16 million of them, has passed this check.

What Yoti actually does

Yoti's Facial Age Estimation technology does two things at once: it confirms that the person holding the phone is a real, live human, and it estimates their age with high accuracy.

That second part matters just as much as the first. Wizz App organises users into tight age groups - you can only interact with people within approximately one year of your own age. That system only works if the age data is reliable. And the age data is only reliable if the person providing it is genuinely who they say they are.

Yoti holds the most stringent ISO 27001 certification, is certified to SOC 2 Type 2, and carries the Age Verification Certificate of Compliance issued by the BBFC. This isn't a start-up technology built for a social app. It's enterprise-grade identity infrastructure applied to the problem of keeping a community real.

The verification is multi-layered

Getting past the front door is one thing. Staying real inside the app is another.

Before your account is even created, Wizz App runs an identity consistency check: your profile photo must match the face from your verification selfie. That match is verified using AWS Machine Learning. If the faces don't match, the photo doesn't go up. The profile is not created. No exceptions.

And it doesn't stop there. Every time a user wants to update their profile photos inside the app, the same check runs again. Another identity consistency check. Another confirmation that the face matches.

This means that the person you're talking to isn't just someone who passed a check three months ago. They're someone whose identity is actively, consistently verified every time they update their profile. The community stays authentic not because of a one-time gate, but because authenticity is maintained throughout.

And what lands in your inbox is checked too

Liveness detection keeps fake accounts out. But Wizz App's safety stack doesn't stop there, it also monitors what real users send each other.

Every message and every image is checked before it reaches you. Bodyguard scans text in real time, catching harmful language before it's delivered. Cinder screens images for inappropriate content before they appear in your inbox. Both operate pre-delivery meaning the moderation happens before you see anything, not after.

Put it all together: the person reaching out to you is verified as a real, live human. Their age has been independently confirmed. Their profile photo matches who they verified as. And the content they send has been screened before it arrives.

That's not one safety layer. That's a full stack — designed from the ground up so that what you experience on Wizz App is as close to real, safe human connection as technology can currently make it.

Why this matters for you

If you've ever felt the creeping doubt of not knowing whether someone online is who they say they are, you understand why this matters.

Real connection requires real people. Not bots. Not sock puppet accounts. Not someone hiding behind someone else's face. Real people — verified, consistent, and accountable — who are there because they want genuine connection, not because they found a gap in someone's sign-up form.

Wizz App pioneered mandatory biometric age verification on social apps. Liveness detection isn't an add-on. It's the foundation.

Because bots don't have faces. And on Wizz App, that's exactly why every face matters.
