Safety and Trust Wizz Update
Safety and Trust Wizz Update
Wizz was created to help Gen Z connect in authentic and meaningful ways without the pressures of traditional social media. Safety has been fundamental to our platform from the start, and it remains an ongoing priority that requires constant effort and vigilance.
Recent regulatory developments and policy discussions about youth safety online have reinforced the scale and complexity of this challenge, one that affects the entire industry.
The latest version of the Wizz app delivers product and safety enhancements designed to continually improve the app’s existing comprehensive Safety Engagement. These updates include:
ID Verification
Starting December 19th, we are requiring additional identity verification for accounts that exhibit higher-risk indicators, including users whose estimated age is near our platform thresholds or accounts flagged by our monitoring systems. Users who cannot complete this verification will not be able to continue using the platform.
As part of our commitment to continuous safety innovation, Wizz reviews new protection technologies routinely to ensure we partner with the best solutions on the market. After testing ID-verification tools from numerous providers in recent months, we selected Yoti, our trusted partner of five years, whose solution seamlessly complements the age-estimation technology already powering our platform.
Dedicated Age-Integrity Team
We are also establishing a dedicated Age-Integrity Team focused exclusively on age verification enforcement. This team will build on existing processes to ensure dedicated end-to-end review of reports related to potential age misrepresentation, including cross-referencing identity data and taking prompt action on violating accounts.
Apple’s App Store recently approved the latest version of the Wizz app that contains these new features, and it is available for download in the App Store.
These measures build on our existing framework, which includes:
Age estimation technology from Yoti, independently audited and certified, and used by government agencies worldwide.
Pre-delivery content moderation—all content on Wizz is pre-approved by our moderation partners before it reaches other users.
Comprehensive manual moderation and simple in-app reporting processes.
Continuous behavioral monitoring to detect patterns indicative of policy violations.
This work is underpinned by a strong regulatory compliance framework and reinforced through independent oversight. We conduct regular third-party audits and collaborate with leading global organizations, including the Tech Coalition, which includes participation in collaborative roundtable discussions around safety and security, and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), to continuously strengthen our approach. Our partnership with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) further assures that our policies and technologies align with the highest standards for youth safety and data protection.
We know that maintaining a safe environment requires continuous investment, transparency, and collaboration. Our mission remains clear: to ensure Wizz is a place where Gen Z can build meaningful connections within a secure and trusted platform.
