Social app Wizz joins Tech Coalition for child safety
Wizz, a social and community app built for Gen Z which bills itself as “a vibrant space to embrace social interaction,” announced today that it is joining the Tech Coalition. It’s one of only a few European-based apps in the alliance, which is dedicated to combating online child abuse and exploitation. According to the company behind the app, it plans to help close the gap for European representation on safety coalitions.
The Tech Coalition is a global alliance dedicated to child safety, and it offers an Elevate six-month pilot program to help platforms implement their preferred practices at scale. According to Wizz, it is the first platform to join after completing the program. It plans to contribute to working groups on topics such as “financial sextortion prevention, trust and safety transparency, and age assurance.”
According to Wizz, it implemented several safety enhancements in line with the Tech Coalition’s requirements. These include integration of detection tools from Thorn, updated safety standards and community guidelines, moderation team training and employee wellness resources. This changes mesh with the app’s existing infrastructure of French and European tech standards.
Thomas Donninger, Wizz founder and CEO, said in a statement, “We built Wizz from day one with safety embedded into how the platform operates. Joining the Tech Coalition reflects our belief that child safety is a shared responsibility. This allows us to contribute what we’ve learned as a Gen-Z-focused platform while continuing to strengthen our practices alongside industry leaders as part of an ecosystem.”
