Frequently Asked Questions: updated June 2024
What is Wizz?

Wizz is a place where young people can safely and authentically express themselves and connect with like-minded peers all over their country.

It’s like a digital hangout spot where young people can make meaningful connections without the judgment and social pressures that weigh on teenagers at schools.

Wizz is available in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland and Norway. We are looking forward to opening new countries very soon!

Wizz was born in 2019 in a mobile gaming company Voodoo in the heart of Paris. The idea behind the creation of Wizz was to enable teenagers to meet new friends their age instantly, which was basically impossible with legacy social media platforms.

We are super proud to have a loyal and rapidly-growing user base! Currently 25% of US teens have downloaded Wizz. There are between 4 and 5 million Gen Zers on Wizz every month, and almost a million every day. 80% of them are in the US, and we’re growing fast in the UK, Australia, France and Italy. When we launched Wizz in the UK in September 2022, we were the most downloaded app on the UK App Store that week. We cannot wait to open new countries!

You can download Wizz App on the App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play Store for Android devices.

We appreciate your interest in using Wizz! Currently Wizz is only available on mobile devices.

To get started, you can download the app from the App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play Store for Android devices.

  1. Device Compatibility: Wizz may not be compatible with your device. Ensure that your device meets the minimum system requirements for the app.
  2. Region Restrictions: Wizz may not be available in your region. Some apps are restricted to specific countries or regions. Check if the app is available in your region by visiting the App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play Store for Android devices.
  3. Storage Space: Your device might not have enough storage space to download the app. Check your device’s storage and free up space if necessary by deleting unnecessary apps, photos, or files.
  4. Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is necessary to download apps. Ensure you are connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network or have a good cellular data connection.

If you have checked all these factors and are still unable to download Wizz, consider reaching out to our support team through the contact form for further assistance.

8.1 Our Wizz Service is not directed at persons under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that your child or another user has provided us with personal information, without your consent, then please contact us using the details below so that we can take steps to remove such information and terminate any account your child has created with us.

‍8.2 When you create an account on the Wizz Service, we need to age estimate you based on your facial image. This is so that we can make sure to comply with applicable laws and regulation notably but not limited to regulations related to underaged users. To do this we collect a selfie from you as part of your account creation. We share only your selfie with Yoti or Trust Stamp who acts as a data processor for Wizz and only acts under our instructions and on our behalf. We share nothing else with Yoti or Trust Stamp and Yoti or Trust Stamp will have no way of linking your selfie to any other data about you. Yoti processes this data in its UK based servers and Trust Stamp processes this data in its EU based servers, and returns an estimated age result to us. Yoti deletes your selfie immediately once the age estimation is completed and does not use your selfie or estimated age for any other purpose at all. Please see Yoti’s US Biometrics Policy for more information. Trust Stamp may use your facial image and/or video for the purpose of the improvement, development, and training of Trust Stamp’s systems and services, subject to a retention period not exceeding thirty (30) days. Please see Trust Stamp’s Privacy Policy for more information.

At this stage, and for safety reasons, Wizz will keep a copy of the face image. This face image might only be used to verify the user’s account and Wizz will never use the image for other purposes. Wizz will only store an image but no biometrics data.

When Yoti or Trust Stamp is unable to determine the age of a user accurately enough, a manual validation is carried out, through the service provider Hive (Castle Global, Inc.). Hive is the tool allowing Wizz to manually validate the age gate when entering the app instead of the Yoti or Trust Stamp tool.

Thanks to this age assessment, users are classified by cluster, and matched with people having appropriate age.

8.3 Wizz moderates all written content that is sent to the app, even before it is received by your contact. To do this, Wizz uses Keywords Studios. This service provider is responsible for controlling the quality of the content on the Wizz application, through a platform made available by Wizz. 12 people are employed to monitor reported conversations or profiles. They only use the data for the purpose requested by Wizz, only following a written instruction from Wizz, and Wizz retains all responsibility. In addition, Keywords Studios encrypts the data, makes it anonymous so it can’t be linked back to our users, and destroys the data once the action has been taken, while keeping a file of its actions on the data for commercial purpose.

8.4 Wizz also ensures that users can themselves report any content or behavior that is inappropriate or does not comply with our Terms. Because of this, users can report harmful users, or advertisements. Wizz analyzes each report and thanks to a trust index, bans users or not.

8.5 All advertisements and content of third parties advertising on the application are made to be suitable for minors, i.e. having no reference to underwears, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, dating, drugs and supplements, “get rich quick”, finance, politics, religion, reference to sex, sensationalism, sexual & reproductive health, significant skin exposure, social casino games, weight loss, gambling & betting and everything related to cosmetic procedures and body modifications.

Yes. Wizz is a platform where young people can safely and authentically express themselves and connect with like-minded peers across their country. It serves as a digital hangout spot where teens can form meaningful connections without the judgment and social pressures often encountered at school.

Wizz facilitates spontaneous conversations by connecting users who are online at the same time within the same country (without using geolocation, so not necessarily the same city). Users meet new friends around their age, regardless of their interests. They engage in typical teenage activities: trying out jokes, seeking opinions on outfits, asking for compliments, gaining social validation from peers, playing games, and more.

Wizz is designed to maximize interaction. When a user comes online, they are immediately connected with others in their age group who are also online, making the world feel a little smaller. The platform offers an infinite number of conversation opportunities, ranging from casual chats to deep discussions, and from brief interactions to lasting friendships.

Wizz is truly a place to meet new friends. By connecting users based solely on their country and age, without requiring them to be part of a specific community or an existing group of friends, Wizz fosters spontaneous new encounters and friendships.

Our success is because Wizz does not work like social media apps. It’s focused on providing a safe space for one-on-one conversations, free from pressure and negativity, rather than viral and unmonitored content. It’s a true social network, a place to make new friends and interact.  There are no likes, no followers, no history. Only profiles of young people around the same age, looking for interaction.

Wizz is fundamentally different in its approach to safety and user experience. Wizz is the first platform to prioritize safety from the start. Here’s how we ensure Wizz is a secure and enjoyable place for everyone:

Safety Measures and Moderation:

Wizz stands out from other social platforms because 100% of our content is moderated before it goes live. We achieve this through a combination of advanced technology, human moderation, and user education:

  • Age Verification: We use an age estimation algorithm developed by Yoti, a company trusted by the UK Home Office and the NHS for ID verification, to ensure that users are the age they claim to be. Every user’s face is scanned at sign-up.
  • Liveness Detection: This ensures that users are real people and the same person who signed up initially. We monitor for any discrepancies between the information provided at sign-in.
  • Content Moderation: All text, images, and videos are scanned before being posted. This prevents harmful content, such as insults, discriminatory comments, nudity, sexual content, or drug-related talk, from ever being shared on Wizz.
  • Preventing Re-entry of Banned Users: We keep track of banned devices to prevent them from re-registering, even if they are reformatted. We also maintain a blacklist of bios and live pictures to block bad actors from rejoining with a new device.

While our technology blocks the vast majority of problematic content, our users can report specific issues to our moderation team. This team reviews 100% of the content within 24 hours and helps keep our moderation tools and guidelines up to date.

We are committed to keeping our users safe on Wizz. We implement features that warn users when they try to share personal details or their profiles on other social platforms. For instance, pop-up messages appear when personal information is detected in messages, and personal information in bios is automatically deleted.

We also use our channels on TikTok and Instagram to promote safety tips to our users.

We rely on industry-leading partners and providers for our technology solutions. This allows us to scale more easily and benefit from the latest improvements, as our partners continuously innovate and enhance their services.

This comprehensive approach allows us to prevent harmful content from being posted on the app and to detect and ban potential bad actors quickly. As long as users stay on Wizz, we can keep them safe. That’s why we have features to warn them when they try to share personal information or contact details on other apps.
